Stephen D. Ryan, PT, DPTPresidentDr Stephen D Ryan Received his Bachelor's degree from Rowan University in Glassboro, new Jersey in 1977. He is a graduate of the US Army/Baylor University program in Physical Therapy and received both his Masters and Doctorate degrees from Baylor University, Waco, Texas. He served in the US Army from 1977-1982, at Brooke Army Medical Center, Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio Texas and Fort George G Meade in Maryland. In 1982 he became the Director of Physical Therapy at Washington County Hospital Association (now Meritus Medical Center). In 1986 he became Executive Director of the Mid Atlantic Physical Therapy center. In 1990 he started his own practice, Ryan Physical Therapy Associates. He has been active in his professional association, serving as Western District Chairman for the Maryland Chapter of the American Physical Therapy Association. In 2005 he was appointed by Governor Bob Ehrlich to the Maryland Board of Physical Therapy examiners, which regulates the practice of Physical Therapy in Maryland. In 2009 he was reappointed to a second term by Governor Martin O'Malley.
He has been a course presenter and lecturer and Penn State University and Hershey Medical Center. He has taught prevention of back injuries for many years and among his clients have been Roadway, The Washington County Board of Education, Corning Glass, and Letterkenny Army Depot. He has been a regular speaker for the washington County health Department's Fall prevention program and a featured speaker at the annual Tri-State Parkinsons Community Seminar. He has multiple clincal certifications and advanced clinical education in the evaluation and treatment of Lymphedema, Parkinsons Disease, Temporal Mandibular Dysfunction (TMJ) and Diabetic Neuropathy. Over the course of more than 40 years in clinical practice he successfully evaluated and treated thousands of individuals from all walks of life, from a 105 year old Literature Professor to Division 1 College athletes. He is active in the Hagerstown Community, having coached youth soccer for 11 years, been a longtime member of the Sunrise Rotary Club and lector at St Ann's Church.
